Osinbajo, Lai Mohammed, Sirika and others for the 5th National Tourism Transport Summit and Expo

The fifth edition of the National Tourism Transport Summit and Expo organized by the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN), will host key industry players and sector stakeholders from 25-26 April 2022 at the International Conference Center ( ICC) from Abuja.

The two-day event is themed: “African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): Strengthening Connectivity, Effect and Partnership” by reaffirming the need to develop international cooperation and partnership programs on the African continent that will improve and strengthen the basic conditions necessary for the successful implementation of the AfCFTA.

The summit aims to explore areas such as human capacity building for quality labor mobility, development and marketing of Nigerian tourism potential and infrastructure development in the intra-modal transport sector, among others.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who is expected to be the special guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the summit, will deliver the keynote address on the theme: “Empowering Youth, Empowering Africa: employment opportunities for Africans in tourism, hospitality and transport.Other aligned stakeholders who will take part in the event aimed at ensuring Nigeria’s readiness for successful participation in the AfCFTA agreement include building and an efficient intra-African transport system: the way forward for transport and tourism in Africa through the AfCFTA scheme which will be led by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika.

Chief Executives of Media Agencies under the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, led by Minister Alhaji Lai Mohammed, will moderate a discussion on the Media Roundtable: The Role of Media and ICT in Tourism Marketing and transports.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, will present the main document on “The Qualification of National Skills, Panacea for Labor Mobilization in the African Union”.

The “CEO Business Roundtable: Intra-African Business Opportunities for Private Enterprises”, will be held under the auspices of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) with the Chairman, Dr. Al-Mujtaba Abubakar and the Executive Director, Mrs. Victoria Akai. will moderate the panel of commentators.

The sub-theme: Effectiveness of the AfCFTA Regime: How Effective Collaboration of Relevant Guardians Can Make a Difference’ has Mr. Babatunde Irukera, Executive Vice President of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission as a panelist major. Others are “One Africa Roundtable: Creating Economic Transformation for Africa via Collaborative Efforts” and will be led by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM), Alhaji Abubakar Abba Bello, alongside representatives of the States Economic Commission West Africa (ECOWAS); While “Africa Tourism: A Global Destination for Global Investment” will be discussed under the guidance of Mr. Folorunsho Coker, Managing Director of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC).

Since its inception in 2018, the National Tourism Summit and Expo has provided the platform for public and private sector stakeholders, producers and consumers from Nigeria and the African continent to come together, share ideas, experiences , exchange knowledge and showcase their skills in growth. , developing and promoting the country’s economic endowments, this time promoting and building on the ideals of the AfCFTA agreements.

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a flagship project of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

It is Africa’s own development vision that was endorsed by the 18th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in January 2012 and signed by the Nigeria on July 7, 2019, followed by the inauguration of a national action committee to coordinate the implementation of the AfCFTA on December 20, 2019 and deposited its instrument of ratification of the agreement on December 5, 2020.

Participants in the two-day event will be selected from key players and stakeholders in the transport and tourism sectors such as air transport; i.e. airlines, tour and tour operators, aviation industry administrators; the maritime industry which includes shipping, boat and cruise ship operators; Road transport including major transport owners, car rental services, Uber, road traffic and safety agencies including FRSC, car insurance companies; State transportation departments and agencies; Rail transport services.

Others are operators in the tourism and hospitality industry, including resort operators, national park services; museums and monuments, ministries and national tourist offices, managers of festivals and tourist events; Hoteliers, restaurateurs and fast food operators; conference and event managers; as well as service providers in banking, oil and gas.

The program of the Summit and Expo on tourist transport will include a walk in the host city, a Summit on tourist transport, an exhibition; B2B and G2B sessions, introductions to members and tourist transport scholarships, and the gala evening which will also present awards to deserving industry stakeholders.
